The Rhine Connects
I created my quilt “The Rhine Connects” for the Rhein MQG exhibition at the 2026 Neuss State Garden Show.. Inspired by the landscape and the cities along the Rhine, the work depicts the river as a unifying element between nature, culture, and the people of the region.
A stylized city skyline, the fields of the Lower Rhine cultural landscape, and embroidered flowers reflect typical features of the surrounding area. The Rhine runs through the quilt as a central design element and guides the eye through the entire composition.
The material used to create the river plays a special role: it consists of reused silk threads that came loose while sewing silk fabrics. From many individual threads, a new textile surface was created—a symbol of transformation, sustainability, and the power of connections.
The quilt invites viewers to discover the Rhine not only as a geographical river, but also as a bond that connects places, people, and stories.
